"The idea started as a spark of frustration, if I am being honest," Matlala begins. "I was tired of seeing women do all the work - at home, in communities, in leadership - and yet only being honoured as a formality or at their funerals. I thought: We need to give them their flowers now."

As Larry reflects on how far the Awards have come, his passion remains rooted in service. We want women to leave our event feeling like queens - celebrated, validated, and fired up for what's next. This is not about me. It's about them.
We don't need to wait for Women's Month to honour excellence. We need systems that celebrate and support women daily. The Mzansi Women of Influence Awards is just the beginning. We are building something beautiful, powerful, and historic - and every woman honoured becomes part of that living legacy.
